Six Years Later – rise International’s Project at God’s Love Centre

Post-Project Observations (6 Years Later)

Over the past six years, 300 lives have directly benefited from the new GLC Centre II, which involved relocating children aged 13 and older to separate housing. This arrangement has not only created more space but also enhanced living conditions by addressing the specific needs of older children. Additionally, profits from the tuckshop were used to cover school fees for three children.

Key challenges :

Despite the improved infrastructure and additional space, the project has faced several challenges:

  • Overcrowding: While older children have been moved to the new residence, overcrowding persists in the main building as the new facility remains underutilized. Only 6 children (4 girls, 2 boys) currently live in the new residence, which has a capacity for 12 due to  lack of mattresses
  • Tuck shop and Computer Centre: Initially intended to generate income, these facilities have been closed due to theft of laptops. During its brief period of operation, the tuck shop provided funds for the school fees of three children, but since its closure due to theft, no further economic benefits have been realized.
  • Water Supply: GLC owes a 70,000 LSL water bill, leading to service cutoff and further challenges in maintaining daily operations.

Currents Needs:

  • Income Generation: GLC seeks to revive and sustain income-generating activities, such as the tuckshop and computer centre, to reduce their reliance on external donations and foster self-sufficiency.
  • Facility Maintenance: Essential repairs are needed for the sliding doors, guard house, and overall infrastructure to ensure the safety and functionality of the facilities.
  • A security guard is needed to ensure the safety of the facilities and protect against theft, which has previously impacted key resources and services.
